Sculpted by nature. Refined by hand.
Sculptural surfaces in shell, glass and mineral, built by hand in our Amsterdam atelier. Small editions. Made to the size of the wall.
not set
Work that changes with the light in the room.
Atelier is our own line. Where our Collection is painted, these pieces are built — layer by layer, element by element, from materials that respond physically to light. Every piece has to earn its place against three questions.
Material
One material has to open a conversation. Not an effect, but something with an origin worth telling.
Light
The surface reacts to real light, not photographed light. It looks different at ten in the morning than at five in the afternoon.
Architecture
The composition has to hold a large wall, and stay convincing from across the room.
Nacre
Individually selected shell fragments form a luminous surface that shifts with daylight and with where you stand.

Six weeks, mostly spent sorting.
The shells arrive as waste from restaurants. What follows is slow, and almost all of it happens before anything is placed.
Collect
Shells are gathered from restaurant kitchens, where they would otherwise be discarded.
Clean
Each shell is cleaned and cured until only the inner layer, the nacre, remains.
Sort
Fragments are sorted by tone and curvature. This is the longest step, and it decides how the finished surface reads.
Place
Every fragment is set by hand. The rhythm of the placement is what makes the light move across the panel.
Seal
Layers of resin are built up to lock the surface and give it depth without flattening the iridescence.
Frame
Framed in solid wood, wired for its weight, and numbered before it leaves the atelier.
Nocturne.
A monochrome black relief, built in layers of mineral compound. Where Nacre holds light, Nocturne withholds it — the composition only reveals itself as you move past it. In development.
