Cleopatra

Cleopatra unfolds in fluid passages of purple and pink, their forms spreading organically across a white canvas. Rather than constructing the composition through fixed lines or predetermined shapes, Mario Sanchez allows the movement of acrylic paint to generate its own rhythms, embracing the element of chance central to his fluid-art practice. The resulting forms appear alternately expansive and concentrated, with areas of colour dissolving into the surrounding space. Named after one of antiquity's most enduring figures, the work nevertheless remains resolutely abstract, allowing colour and movement—rather than portraiture—to carry its sense of presence.
