Strata

Strata explores the relationship between colour, rhythm and sculptural depth through a composition of densely arranged vertical lines. Deep forest greens, muted burgundy, bronze and earthy undertones emerge from a dark background, creating a layered surface that shifts in character as light moves across the work. From a distance, the composition appears almost monochromatic, while closer observation reveals an intricate spectrum of colours woven into its rhythmic structure.

Built through a repeated application of raised, linear textures, the work transforms a seemingly simple arrangement into a richly tactile surface. Each individual ridge catches light differently, creating subtle variations in shadow, colour and depth. The interplay between repetition and irregularity gives the composition a sense of continuous movement, reminiscent of natural mineral formations and geological strata. A plaster basis is used, the work is finished with oil paint.
